Yiannis Ioannou originates from Cyprus and is one of our most lively radio presenters and producers here on LGR.  

He has always had a passion for media production and, in order to pursue his dream of working in radio, he took advantage of his free time to be a radio presenter/producer for London Greek Radio. Currently, he is presenting and producing two weekly radio shows every Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening. During the Covid-19 pandemic period, Yiannis started temporarily presenting and producing the LGR’s Breakfast Show (news, entertainment & music), weekdays from 7-10am.   

Yiannis is also a freelance journalist and a Voice Over Artist who enjoys PR, media production and travel. Coming from an advanced academic background, he has obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Media Studies and a Μaster’s degree (MA) in Communication and Media. As an enthusiastic person, passionate and skilled in a wide range of media studies and media production, he has been a part of a production team on numerous occasions. He has worked in film and TV productions as a photographer, assistant producer, assistant cameraman, music composer and production co-ordinator.

He joined our family in July 2010 to present “The Sunday Afternoon Show” or in Greek, “Apogevma tis Kiriakis” from 1pm - 4pm, a musical and entertaining show full of musical delights. However, in October 2010 he came up with a great idea and for four years in a row, he produced and presented every Wednesday evening the show called “The Student’s Line” or in Greek “I Grammi tou Fititi” from 10pm till 12 midnight. Along with a great team of expert advisers, he was responsible for all students’ enquiries as well as making it possible to produce a special entertaining and informative radio show, regarding Greek students and the student life in the UK.

The main aim of the show was to provide useful information and give advice to new students, graduates, and young professionals. This advice concerned student life and issues regarding university life, academic/medical issues as well as nutrition, health, gym and exercise and psychological support. In addition, more students’ services such as job search and internship opportunities were introduced during the last two out of four successful series. “The Student’s Line” was one of the most well-known LGR radio shows and was running from late 2010 through to mid 2014.

Due to the end of an era, Yiannis replaced his student show with his unique musical and entertaining show “Chalara me Styl” or in English, “Relaxing with Style”! Every Wednesday evening, he continues to entertain his audience in a fun packed 2-hour energetic show with all the latest hits from Greece and the UK; playing you modern pop, modern laiko, Greek entexno and rock, along with interests in news and much, much more (the show now has been postponed as Yiannis presents and produces the Breakfast Show).

During his time on LGR, Yiannis has also presented a variety of our popular radio shows such as “Drive Time” and midday shows. From October 2013 and for two years in a row, Yiannis was also producing and presenting the musical and entertaining show “Friday and… here we Go”, or in Greek “Paraskeui kai… Fygame!”, every Friday afternoon from 2pm - 4pm.

Since presenting and producing LGR’s Breakfast Show for over a year from January 2012 until March 2013 (from 7am – 10am weekdays), he has become a well-known radio presenter to our listeners. In addition to this, Yiannis still covers the LGR’s breakfast show from time to time. His contribution to the morning slot was very crucial during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

Yiannis is well-known for his exclusive radio interviews for LGR. Since 2010, he has met and interviewed important personalities from Cyprus, Greece and the UK; ranging from well-known singers, to politicians, to actors; some of which included Alkinoo Ioannidi, Anna Vissi, Vasili Papakonstantinou, Philippo Pliatsika, Giorgo Papadopoulo, Eleftheria Eleftheriou, Despina Vandi, Locomondo, Mple, Aggelo Andreato, Pano Kalidi and many more.

He has previously worked as a photographer, a cameraman, a desktop publishing designer and reporter in local newspapers in Britain and, from time to time, he writes for the Greek Media in London. He has also written a majority of articles which have been published in the local Greek community newspapers in London. He has also collaborated with commercial and programming teams, as well as directing V.O. sessions and making radio commercials.

He is a passionate and sociable person who likes music, photography, public relations, cinema and travel. He works full-time in the travel industry and enjoys learning new things every day. When not – on location, he is an entertaining and an enthusiastic presenter who makes you smile and feel happy with his own chat and musical radio shows.

Soulla Violari one of LGR’s long standing and much loved D.j’s was born in Greece and from a young age was involved in the music scene, theatre, dancing, and beauty contests and also starred in television adverts. She began presenting at LGR in 1985 when it was only a small local station. In 1989 she began a morning programme and for 10 years produced and presented the ‘Good morning London Programme’, which includes news, music, reviews, surveys, weather forecast, horoscopes, dedications and live links with experts on topical issues. She still presents the programme weekly on Saturday and Sunday from 7am – 10 am, Soulla also presents a music show on Mondays from 10-12pm.
All the music that Soulla plays on the airwaves is chosen from her personal collection that she updates with the latest releases and consists of 6,000 records and CD’s.
Soulla continuously tries to promote and contribute to the work of charitable establishments and development of the community and society. She achieves this through the LGR programme and the promotion of charity events, relevant topics and radio marathons. Furthermore Soulla dedicates her personal time and visits schools, hospitals and charitable institutions and activities.

He’s been part of the LGR family for 17 years, having started at the age of 15 with the show ‘The new generation’. His involvement in the DJ-ing world doesn’t end here; outside of LGR Andreas is very much a part of the media industry! He DJs in clubs all over the country, has worked for overseas radio stations, as a club host, concert promoter, international DJ and is involved in Greek Media in UK and abroad.

Our smiley radio DJ, Tony was born in London to Cypriot Greek parents. A creative soul was always listening to London Greek Radio as a child and now a long-time presenter and producer.

Tony is a massive LGR fan, wears his iconic station t-shirt, we guess he’s giving it ‘103.3 per cent’, as he likes to say on-air; passionate, with a strong work ethic.

Always smiling, with an upbeat personality our DJ handles different styles of music from Modern Greek hits to Pop, Laika, nisiotika and entehno Tony can satisfy even the most demanding listeners. Tony’s “encyclopaedic knowledge of the LGR library”, that’s our music archives is a pretty good asset to have, for sure.

Tony is impressively current with the exciting, relevant upcoming releases and best new songs, in his shows, adding them to the station’s music play-lists. His signature ‘great tunes in the mix’, which are giving it that extra spark, to Tony’s radio slots.

He is presenting and producing cohesively slick sets and the content has fun spontaneity, which is entertaining and captivating to our listeners. Mr Neophytou is solidly adaptable and versatile, to various time-zones, or formats, either day-time, Drive Time to late evening or night, during the weekend.

Tony had been voted ‘favourite LGR presenter’ by his fellow contemporaries, during a fun exercise initiative at work, and it’s an achievement he’s proud of.

He is working extensively in studio management, production, editing, technical assistance, with other formats, and broadcasts. Tony performs a role in the training process of potential radio people; creating and designing art-work; adverts and station-jingles and relishes joyfully in the creative excitement of it. Tony has always firmly supported our locally based home-grown talent, and other personalities, within the wider Greek/Cypriot community.

His charming, interactive style which appeals to the long-time listener and young digitally savvy, he will answer your enquiries to studio@lgr.co.uk. Tony lists the Bahamas to Uruguay, the States, as a few of the marvellous places that have messaged, or sent feedback to his shows.

The knowledge of performance and media which have vastly contributed to developing the ‘skills set’ in broadcast radio. As he described, he can still recollect when he first approached the LGR building in Haringey, enquiring about work placements at the weekend. They said ‘Yes!’ and so, fortunate enough, he became part of our team.

“PRODUCER, PRESENTER, PROGRAMME ORGANISER ALWAYS AIMS TO ENTERTAIN”

Born in Sychari, a village in the state of Kyrinia, Cyprus has been involved in LGR since the very beginning. Having studied at the Stanislavski Drama School with the great teacher Vlademeros Kafkarides, he went on to take part in many performances and theatre productions.

After the Turkish invasion in Cyprus, he came to London to study Theatre at the Birmingham School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art. From here Vasilis went on to partake in many TV productions such as Vote for them, Soldier Soldier, Birds of the Feather, Boon, Sam’s Game, Plane Spotting and Bubbles. He also appeared in various films including Rifts and Sleeping with the Fishes which also featured Ewan McGregor. Over the years he has also done voice overs for many TV and Film productions.

He has worked alongside George Evgeniou at Theatre Technis in various productions, including numerous children’s plays. Vasilis writes poetry, theatre plays and short stories. He has worked for London Greek Radio as a full time presenter and producer for the last twenty years. Playing a mix of older and newer generation music throughout various shows in the week!

Consistently active in the performing arts from an early age, Kat has always harboured a love of entertaining especially through the act of song. Citing influences from the Empress of Soul Etta James to the poetic Jill Scott, her taste for soulful tones and jazzy grooves creep into her own music. Singing from the age of seven, music and song-writing has always provided a vehicle for repressed frustrations, elevating joy and all those things in between.

Brought up on eclectic styles of music, it isn’t the genre that matters, but the emotion that reaches beyond the music. During Kats musical career she has also looked to her Cypriot roots for inspiration and has become well known in her community as an artist; Winning 1st place at the New Talent contest organized in conjunction with the Cyprus Wine Festival at Alexander Palace in 2001.

A graduate of the highly coveted Commercial Music degree at The University of Westminster Kat won a 2 year scholarship with the Westminster Voices Gospel Choir; recording with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Previous musical projects include both Greek and English collaborations, working with Crocodile Music Records as a lyricist and performer on “The Embrace” – the enigmatic theme song from the BBC2 TV series: Rick Stein Mediterranean Escapes. Kat has additionally featured as a vocalist on the CD release “The Cypriot Collection” for the track Chakara Makara, produced by Harry K.

In 2009 Kats self-penned composition “I Believe” was selected as one of the 10 finalists to compete in the televised Eurovision National Final for Cyprus, several successful club remixes of the track soon followed, including one by renowned producer Tim Allan of the Hong Kong Blondes.

Kats love of performing live has seen her grace the stage of many festivals and major events including appearing at the HMV Forum for a musical tribute to two Greek greats; singers Stelios Kazantzidis and Grigoris Bithikotsis alongside Dimitris Mpasis.

When not on-stage and performing, Katerina presents her own DJ show ‘Scandalous’ live on LGR 103.3fm; jam-packed with all the latest Modern Greek hits, music exclusives, celebrity gossip, chart news and listeners’ special requests & dedications!

Kat also writes the weekly Music Column ‘EXCLUSIVE’ for Cypriot newspaper The Parikiaki, published every Thursday.
